Recover a deactivated TikTok account
- Reinstall TikTok if needed. On iPhone, redownload TikTok from the App Store under Apps & Purchase History. On Android, open Google Play, then Manage apps & device and Manage.
- Log in with the same details. Open the TikTok app and log in with the same login credentials you used before you deactivated.
- Tap Reactivate. When TikTok shows the deactivated account, tap Reactivate to recover it.
- Forgot the password?. On the login screen tap Forgot password?, reset it by phone or email, or tap Recover account and verify your identity.
- Still stuck? Report it. In the app go to Settings and privacy, Help Center, Chat with us, or use TikTok's online reporting form. Only TikTok Support can help.
Can you recover TikTok account access after deleting it?
Usually not, if it was truly deleted. TikTok's Help Center treats deactivation as a temporary hold you can undo, and offers deletion as the permanent alternative. So the first job is to find out which one happened, because many people who think they deleted TikTok only deactivated it.
Most searches for how to recover TikTok account access fall into four cases: the account was deactivated, deleted, banned, or you simply cannot log in. Each one has a different fix, and only three of the four have a fix at all. The table in the next section helps you sort your case in under a minute.
What sources does this recover TikTok account guide rely on?
- TikTok Help Center articles, read on 19 October 2026 through TikTok's own help system.
- Apple Support and Google Play Help for reinstalling the app.
- No guesses: where TikTok gives no number or no rule, we say so instead of filling the gap.
We are Tiktokioo.com, a free tool for saving public TikTok posts. We cannot unlock, restore or reach into any account, and nobody outside TikTok can. What we can do is help you keep copies of your own posts so a lost account hurts less next time.
Did you deactivate, delete, get banned or get locked out?
Before you try to recover TikTok account access, look at what you see when you try to log in. A Reactivate button means deactivated. A banner about a ban means banned. A wrong password or unknown device error means locked out. If the account cannot be found at all after you deleted it on purpose, it is most likely gone.
| What you see | Likely case | Can you get it back? | Where to start |
|---|---|---|---|
| Log in works, then a Reactivate option | Deactivated | Yes, by yourself | Log in, tap Reactivate |
| Banner saying the account is banned | Banned | Only if an appeal is approved | Open the notification, tap Appeal |
| Wrong password, forgotten email | Locked out | Yes, with a reset | Forgot password? on the login screen |
| Unrecognized device error | Locked out, 2-step verification on | Yes, from a trusted device or a recovery request | Recover account |
| You deleted it on purpose | Deleted | TikTok calls deletion permanent | Contact Support only if you think it was a mistake |
| Someone else changed your login | Hijacked | Use TikTok's recovery request | Recover account, then Security checkup |
Why do people confuse deactivate and delete when they try to recover TikTok account access?
Both live behind the same button. TikTok's path is Profile, the Menu ☰ button, Settings and privacy, Account, then Deactivate or delete account. On the next screen you pick one. If you rushed through it, you may not remember which you chose.
- If logging in shows Reactivate, you chose deactivate. Good news.
- If you remember a step called delete and a confirmation, assume deletion.
- If you are not sure, simply try to log in. It costs nothing.
What is the difference between deactivating and deleting TikTok?
Deactivating puts the account on a temporary hold and keeps your data, so you can come back anytime. Deleting is the permanent option. That one line is the core of every attempt to recover TikTok account access, and it comes straight from TikTok's Deactivate your account article.
“You won't have access to your account, but we'll keep your data so you can recover it if you choose to reactivate your account.”
| Question | Deactivated account | Deleted account |
|---|---|---|
| How TikTok describes it | A temporary hold | Permanent deletion |
| Does TikTok keep your data for a return? | Yes, so you can reactivate | Not described as recoverable |
| Can others see your profile and posts? | No one sees your content or profile | Not stated in the Help Center |
| Messages you already sent | May stay visible to the people who got them | Not stated in the Help Center |
| Duets and Stitches of your videos | May still be visible to others | Not stated in the Help Center |
| How to come back | Log in, tap Reactivate | No restore option described |
Which should you choose if you only need a break?
Deactivate. It hides your profile and posts from everyone and keeps the door open. Delete only when you are sure, and only after you have saved anything you want to keep. The section on backups below shows how.
How do you reactivate a deactivated TikTok account?
Log in with the same login credentials you used before, then tap Reactivate. That is TikTok's entire published process, and it is the easiest way to recover TikTok account access. No form, no waiting for a reply, no one to pay.
- Install the TikTok app again if you removed it (see the reinstall section below).
- Open the app and choose to log in rather than sign up.
- Use the same email, phone number, username or connected account you used before.
- Enter your password, or reset it if you forgot it.
- Tap Reactivate when TikTok asks.
What if you signed up with Google, Apple or another app?
Use that same option to log in and recover TikTok account access. TikTok's Reset password article notes that if you joined using another social media account, the password has to be reset on that platform, not in TikTok. Picking a different method may create a brand-new, empty account instead of opening your old one.
How long can an account stay deactivated?
TikTok's article says you can reactivate anytime when you are ready. It does not publish a time limit, so do not trust pages that quote one as if it were official.
- Reactivation is free and needs no form or waiting for a reply.
- Reactivating recovers the account TikTok kept on hold.
- If you see a Sign up screen only, you are not logged in to the old account yet.
Is there a 30-day window to get TikTok back after deleting it?
Many websites repeat a 30-day grace period, but the TikTok Help Center articles we read on 19 October 2026 do not state any number of days for deleted accounts. The Delete your account article simply says to follow the instructions in the app. If the app shows a waiting period when you delete, that screen is your best evidence.
Then what should you do if you just deleted it?
- Try to log in right away with your usual details; it is the only self-service way to recover TikTok account access. If TikTok offers to restore or reactivate, accept.
- If logging in fails, write down when you deleted it and which email or phone it used.
- Contact TikTok Support through Report a problem and describe what happened (steps further down).
- Do not create a new account with the same email until you have tried the steps above.
Our advice: treat any fixed number you read online, including 30 days, as unconfirmed unless the TikTok app or TikTok Support tells you so directly.
Why are there so many contradicting answers?
Help pages change and get copied. Search results for this topic are full of pages that reword each other, mixed with pages that exist only to sell a recovery service. When a page cannot link to the TikTok article behind its claim, assume it does not have one.
- Trust: the TikTok app's own screens and replies from TikTok Support.
- Check twice: blog posts that quote a number of days without linking TikTok.
- Ignore: anyone who offers to restore a deleted account for money.
What is lost after a TikTok account is deleted?
Plan for everything stored in the account to be gone: your videos, photos, drafts, followers and history. TikTok describes deletion as permanent and does not describe a way to restore it, so anything you did not save on your own device should be treated as lost.
| Item | Saved somewhere else? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Videos you posted | Only if you saved them to your device | Check your phone gallery and cloud backups |
| Photo posts | Only if you saved them | Check the same places |
| Drafts | Drafts lived in the app | Assume they are gone |
| Data file you requested earlier | Only if you downloaded it within 4 days | Check your Downloads folder |
| Messages you sent before deactivating | TikTok says they may stay visible to recipients | Ask a friend if you need one |
| Your username | TikTok's Help Center does not say | Do not assume it will be free or reserved |
Can you still find your old videos online?
Copies may exist where you shared them: in chats, in other apps you cross-posted to, or on a friend's phone. The Tiktokioo.com downloader cannot help with posts from a deleted account, because it only reads public posts that TikTok still serves. Deleted and private posts are out of reach for every tool.
- Look in your phone's gallery or camera roll for clips saved with Save to device.
- Search your cloud backups (iCloud Photos, Google Photos) for TikTok exports.
- Check your email for an old TikTok data file notice.
Can you recover a banned TikTok account?
Sometimes. If you believe the ban is a mistake, you can submit an appeal, and if TikTok approves it your account status is reinstated. A ban is a decision by TikTok, so unlike deactivation you cannot undo it yourself, and nobody outside TikTok can overturn it for you.
“If your account is banned, you can log in to the account to submit an appeal and download your personal data. Keep in mind that we delete personal data after a period of time in accordance with applicable laws and our data retention policy.”
Why does TikTok ban accounts permanently?
- You do not meet the minimum age or other requirements in the Terms of Service.
- The account impersonates another person or entity in a deceptive way.
- A single severe violation, such as content that promotes or threatens violence.
- Using another account to dodge a restriction or ban.
- Multiple violations of TikTok's policies, including its Intellectual Property Policy.
- An account that exists only to break the rules.
That list is a summary of the reasons TikTok gives in its Content violations and bans article. TikTok also says your account status reflects your violation history over the last 90 days, and that violations expire after 90 days.
Should you download your data before appealing?
Yes. TikTok lets you log in to a banned account to download your personal data, and warns that data is deleted after a period of time. Request it first, then appeal and try to recover TikTok account access. That way you keep a copy whatever the decision.
How do you appeal a TikTok ban?
Open the ban notification, tap Appeal and follow the instructions. TikTok shows that banner when you next open the app or try to log in. This is the only official way to recover TikTok account access after a ban.
- Open the TikTok app and log in to the banned account.
- Open the notification that your account has been banned.
- Tap Appeal.
- Follow the instructions, and explain clearly why you think the decision is wrong.
- Do not delete the account while the appeal is open.
- Do not delete posts that are under review.
- Keep the ban notification; it is where the Appeal button lives.
What happens if the appeal is approved?
TikTok says your content and account status are reinstated, unless you already deleted the account or the content. Two practical lessons follow: do not delete the banned account while an appeal is open, and do not delete appealed posts that are under review.
Can you just open a new account instead?
TikTok allows multiple accounts, but it may restrict or ban a new account used to get around a ban, for example after a severe violation. That rule applies while the restriction or ban on your other account is still active.
- Check your violations in the app: Inbox, System notifications, Account updates.
- Check your account status from TikTok Studio or the Safety Center (Account check).
- Keep your appeal factual and short; you may be asked to attach screenshots.
What if you cannot log in at all?
Reset your password from the login screen with Forgot password?, using your phone number or email. A forgotten password is the most common reason people think they need to recover TikTok account access, and it is also the easiest to fix.
- In the TikTok app, tap Sign up.
- Tap Log in at the bottom of the page.
- Select Use phone / email / username.
- Choose Email / Username.
- Tap Forgot password?
- Choose to reset it with your phone number or email.
What does the unrecognized device error mean?
It is a security feature. TikTok shows it when 2-step verification is on and you try to reset your password from a device you have never used to log in. Reset from an old, trusted phone if you still have it. If not, use Recover account, covered next.
Lost your authenticator app?
Tap Can't access the app and enter the recovery code you got when you set up the authenticator. Without that code, tap Need more help? and verify your identity. TikTok warns this process may take up to 30 days.
- Forgot the password: Forgot password?, then phone or email.
- Joined with another app: reset the password on that platform.
- No trusted device left: Recover account, then verify your identity.
How does TikTok's Recover account option work?
On the login screen, tap Forgot password?, then Recover account, and follow the steps to verify your identity. TikTok's Support team then reviews the request. This is the built-in route to recover TikTok account access when you have no trusted device left.
What information may TikTok ask for?
- The email address registered on the account.
- The phone number linked to it.
- Passwords you used in the past.
- Anything else the in-app steps request to confirm the account is yours.
Can friends help you get back in?
Yes. If you cannot log in or reset your password, TikTok lets you ask friends you are connected with to verify you. Tap the Help button at the top of the app, then Recover your account, search for your username, email or phone, tap Can't access these? and choose Ask friends to verify.
| Rule for friends verification | What TikTok says |
|---|---|
| How many friends | At least 2 |
| Where they see it | Security & permissions page in their settings |
| Time limit | A specific period of time to verify |
| Daily attempts | A limited number each day |
| If you pass | You are logged in automatically |
| If you fail | Try again or use another recovery method |
How do you contact TikTok support about a lost account?
Use Report a problem, the route TikTok gives for help when you cannot recover TikTok account access yourself. Logged in: Profile, Menu ☰, Settings and privacy, Help Center, then Chat with us. Logged out or out of the app: use TikTok's online reporting form, pick a topic and submit.
“Only the TikTok Support team can assist with your requests.”
What should you include in the report?
- Your username, and the email or phone linked to the account.
- What happened and roughly when: deactivated, deleted, banned or hacked.
- Any error message, word for word.
- Screenshots, if TikTok asks for them; the article says you may need to attach files.
- One clear request, for example: please help me regain access to my account.
Is there a phone number or email for TikTok Support?
TikTok's Help Center points to the in-app chat and the online form. Be wary of phone numbers in search results or comments that claim to be TikTok Support. They are a common scam route, which brings us to the next point.
- Logged in: Settings and privacy, Help Center, Chat with us.
- Logged out: TikTok's online reporting form.
- Make sure you are logged in to the correct account before reporting.
Should you pay a TikTok account recovery service?
No. TikTok says only its Support team can assist with your requests, and no outside service has a back door into TikTok. Anyone who offers to recover TikTok account access for a fee, or asks for your password or login codes, is at best useless and at worst trying to steal the account.
Warning signs of a recovery scam
- A stranger messages you after you post about losing your account.
- They ask for your password, a verification code or your email login.
- They want payment by gift card, crypto or a money transfer app.
- They promise to restore a banned or deleted account guaranteed.
- They claim to work for TikTok but contact you outside the app.
TikTok's own Account safety article lists phishing scams among the ways passwords get stolen. A verification code sent to you is meant for you alone; sharing it hands over the account.
| Official route | Paid recovery service |
|---|---|
| Inside the TikTok app or on tiktok.com | Social media DMs, comments, random websites |
| Free | Asks for money first |
| Never needs your password from you | Often asks for your password or codes |
| Named in TikTok's Help Center | Not mentioned anywhere by TikTok |
Already gave a code or password to someone? Reset your password at once from a trusted device. TikTok says changing your password logs you out of all other devices.
Does deleting the TikTok app delete your account?
No. TikTok describes account deletion as a step inside the app's settings, under Deactivate or delete account. Removing the app from your phone is a device action. To get back in, reinstall TikTok and log in as usual.
| Device | How to get TikTok back | Official help |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone or iPad | App Store, My Account, Apps & Purchase History, Your Apps, Not on this iPhone, Redownload | Apple Support |
| Android | Google Play, Profile icon, Manage apps & device, Manage, This device, Not installed, Install | Google Play Help |
Reinstall TikTok on an iPhone
- Open the App Store app.
- Tap the My Account button or your photo at the top.
- Tap Apps & Purchase History, then Your Apps.
- Tap Not on this iPhone.
- Find TikTok and tap the Redownload button.
Reinstall TikTok on Android
- Open the Google Play app.
- Tap the Profile icon on the right.
- Tap Manage apps & device, then Manage.
- If TikTok is missing, tap This device, then Not installed.
- Select TikTok and tap Install.
- Reinstall from the App Store or Google Play only, never from a link someone sends you.
- After reinstalling, choose Log in, not Sign up.
- Use the same login method you used before.
How do you back up your TikTok before something goes wrong?
Keep your own copies. TikTok itself recommends saving your videos or photos to your device before you post. Add a TikTok data request now and then, and keep copies of your public posts. Then a lost account means lost followers, not lost work, even if you never manage to recover TikTok account access.
“We recommend downloading your videos or photos before you post so that you have offline copies of your content.”
Turn on Save to device when you post
On the Post screen, tap More options and turn the Save to device setting on. TikTok also lets you tap Save on the side panel while editing to download a single photo or video post.
Request your TikTok data
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile, then the Menu ☰ button, then Settings and privacy.
- Tap Account, then Download your data.
- Choose what to include and a file format.
- Tap Request data, then wait for the in-app notice; TikTok says it may take a few days.
- Come back to Download your data, open Download data and tap Download. The file is available for up to 4 days.
TikTok says the file may include your username, watch history, comment history and privacy settings, among other data. Some data may be missing, such as data that affects others' privacy, and the last 24 to 48 hours of some categories may not be included.
Save your public posts as files
For your own public videos, paste each post link into the TikTok video downloader and save an MP4 without the watermark, plus an HD copy when TikTok serves one. In our tests a public post resolves in 0.6 to 1.8 seconds, and the file comes from TikTok's own CDN.
| Backup method | What you keep | Works after the account is gone? |
|---|---|---|
| Save to device when posting | The video or photo as you posted it | Yes, it is on your phone |
| Download your data | Account data such as username and history | Yes, if you downloaded the file in time |
| Tiktokioo.com video saver | MP4 of each public post, HD when served | Yes for saved files; new saves need the post to be public |
| TikTok to MP3 | Your original sounds as audio files | Yes for saved files |
| Slideshow downloader | Each image of your photo posts | Yes for saved files |
- Original sounds you created can be kept as audio files; a 15-second sound is about 0.25 MB as M4A.
- Public stories disappear fast, so use the story saver while they are up.
- Working on a computer? The Mac guide shows where files land in Finder.
Back up your own content, or content you have permission to reuse. Download links on Tiktokioo.com expire after one hour and we keep no copy, so save the file when you get it.
How do you stop losing your TikTok account again?
Run TikTok's Security checkup and finish every task. TikTok's path is Profile, Menu ☰, Settings and privacy, Security & permissions, Security checkup. A secured account with two contact methods is far easier to recover TikTok account access to when something goes wrong.
- Link and verify both a phone number and an email address, so you have a second way in if one is lost.
- Turn on 2-step verification with at least two methods.
- Add a passkey; TikTok strongly recommends it over passwords.
- Review trusted devices and delete any you do not recognize.
- Use a unique password of 12 to 15 characters with mixed letters, numbers and symbols, as TikTok suggests.
- Save your recovery code if you use an authenticator app.
What is the safest way to take a break?
Deactivate instead of deleting, and log out instead of uninstalling if you only want less screen time. Both keep every option open.
Quick checklist before you delete anything
- Save copies of the videos and photos you care about.
- Request and download your TikTok data.
- Decide: a break (deactivate) or a goodbye (delete)?
- Read every screen in the delete flow before you confirm.

Is Tiktokioo.com connected to TikTok?
No. Tiktokioo.com is an independent tool and is not affiliated with tiktokio.com, TikTok or ByteDance. We cannot see, unlock or restore accounts, and we never ask for your TikTok login. Questions about this page go through our contact page; see the privacy policy for how links you paste are handled.
